Paula Sylvia


Paula has a long and illustrious career working with and caring for hundreds of aquatic animal species which began as a diver in the Fishes Department at the New England Aquarium. Paula has "the blue thumb".

Currently, Paula is the Offshore Aquaculture Program Manager/Business Development Director for the Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute. She joined the Institute in 2000 to assist in managing a variety of programs and projects designed to promote the development of offshore aquaculture in the United States.

Prior to her work at Hubbs-SeaWorld and before obtaining her M.Sc. at the University of Stirling, Institute of Aquaculture in Scotland, she spent much of her professional career working in both the research and commercial sectors of the tuna aquaculture industry in the United States, Canada, Australia, Spain, Greece and Mexico. She has applied her offshore experience to the southern California, U.S., and Baja California, Mexico region, with a focus on a variety of regionally important species suitable for commercial production in the offshore environment.

Paula lives in San Diego with her handsome ten year old son, Liam Michael.
